Who We Are
The BC Cancer Agency Prevention Programs was created to help people in British Columbia learn about the preventable causes of cancer. We believe that prevention is better than any cure. That’s why the team of Prevention Educational Leaders work all over the province to inform people that many cancers can be prevented, and to support everyone in their efforts to build healthier lives, communities, schools, workplaces, and families.
Our work is evidence-based, which means that we concentrate on what is known about cancer and its causes. Of course, there’s still a lot we don’t know. But you can be confident that any information you get from us is accurate and medically sound.
Do you know the main preventable risk factors for cancer? Did you know addressing these risk factors through lifestyle changes would cut the risk of cancer by more than half? Here are the main ways you can prevent cancer through lifestyle changes:
Avoid tobacco products
If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation
Eat a nutritious diet, with plenty of vegetables and fruit every day
Maintain a healthy body weight, neither overweight nor too thin
Get plenty of physical activity
Practice sun safety
